🎣 FISH — A Fly Casting Game

I guess I’m just out of the norm. I like to practice casting to get better, faster and hopefully catch more fish. I come up with different challenges out in my yard all the time and I absolutely know it helps to keep practicing and the challenges help keep me interested. Casting to sighted fish from the bow of a skiff requires some skill and practice is definitely a good idea.

A few months ago I attempted to get my fly fishing club’s members to play a simple game of HORSE using flyrods and hula hoops on a lawn. The results were disastrous, nobody would take it seriously, most wouldn’t play, some would just walk around and cast not paying any attention to what we were trying to do. I figured it must be my fault, I didn’t present the idea well enough and I didn’t provide instructions.

In an effort to correct my mistakes I asked ChatGPT to help me out. I asked it to design a fly casting game modeled after the common basketball game of “HORSE”. Below is the result. Yes, I could have done this myself but ChatGPT did it faster and honestly, I can’t believe I didn’t even think of using “FISH” instead of “HORSE”! Anyway, it’s described below, I hope somebody tries it and has more luck with getting the right kind of participation than I did.

🎣 FISH — A Fly Casting Game

Based on the classic game of HORSE
Designed for saltwater fly casting practice

🎮 How to Play

  1. Players take turns calling and making a cast.
    • If the cast is successful, all other players must repeat it.
    • If a player fails to duplicate the cast, they receive a letter: F, I, S, or H.
    • If the original caster misses, the next person becomes the “leader” and makes up a new cast.
  2. Last player remaining who hasn’t spelled FISH wins.
  3. Creative cast ideas are encouraged!
