Tarpon Journey Update

What’s better than catching a tarpon? Catching two! I’m gonna leave a lot of details out because I am not worthy, I’m just the angler, but yes, I did finally catch my tarpon and not long after that I caught another one. We jumped several which promptly broke leaders, threw flies, broke welded loops, broke my rod, sliced my fingers, busted my knuckles and created general pandemonium every time one bit. Through all that, eventually two 80-100 lb sized tarpon came to the boat.

Ever since I read the story “Byme-by Tarpon” by Zane Grey, I have wanted to catch one of the Silver Kings. For anyone interested in tarpon, I highly suggest reading ZG’s story which can be read online at the following link, Sporting Classics Daily

There is a lot to learn about casting to, teasing, setting the hook and fighting this ultimate flyrod fish. I am delighted to have brought two of those beautiful animals to the boat, but most of the credit belongs to the guide. I am looking forward to my next trip.

We only managed to get one jump on video. Enjoy:
